The fourth annual Kansas State of Wellness Symposium was held on Wednesday, May 9. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, Kansas Alliance for Wellness and WorkWell KS have provided support to businesses, health organizations and communities as they work to improve health and wellness across the state. The symposium allowed organizations to collaborate and work together toward a common purpose of greater health outcomes.
“We were able to recognize organizations across the state that are working hard to improve health,” said Missty Lechner, Advocacy Project Director, Kansas Alliance for Wellness. “Each of the awardees have taken on various challenges to impact and improve health in very different ways. Regardless of the type of organization or the struggles they have encountered, each has been able to achieve meaningful progress over the past few years.”
Awards were presented for the following categories: Community Health Champion, Organization Health Champion, and Worksite Wellness Health Champion. ORION Education and Training (formerly the Service Center at Clearwater) was this year’s worksite health champion because of its innovative approach to wellness through encouragement and educating its employees. Orion has developed a strong wellness committee, purchased standing desks, adopted a healthy food policy to ensure there are always healthy options whenever food is served on site and is now a tobacco free worksite. They decided that the best business decision to ensure the organization is successful in the future is to invest in the health and well-being of their employees, today.
Other winners included USD465 in Winfield, KS, with the Organization Health Champion award, and Bourbon County, which received the Community Health Champion award.
