Orion Education and Training is one of seven educational service agencies serving Kansas schools. Our mission is to provide high-quality, cost-effective services that help school districts maximize educational opportunities and outcomes for students. We also serve as a vital connection between local school districts and the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE), helping educators navigate initiatives, resources, and compliance requirements.
Unlike school districts, Orion receives no direct state funding and does not levy taxes or receive student aid. Instead, we operate through a combination of membership dues, fee-for-service programs, and competitive state, federal, and private grants. This funding model allows us to remain responsive, innovative, and focused on meeting the evolving needs of Kansas educators and students.
As a public organization with an entrepreneurial mindset, Orion combines the accountability and service of the public sector with the flexibility, creativity, and innovation often associated with the private sector. This unique approach enables us to develop practical solutions, build strong partnerships, and deliver exceptional value to the schools and communities we serve.
Our offices and training facilities are located in Clearwater, Kansas, just southwest of Wichita, providing a central location for professional learning, collaboration, and educational support throughout the region.
A Broader Impact
Orion is part of a statewide and national network of educational service agencies dedicated to helping schools do more with limited resources. We are a member of the Kansas Association of Educational Service Agencies (KAESA) and the Association of Educational Service Agencies (AESA), organizations that support collaboration and innovation among service agencies across the country.
Educational service agencies have long demonstrated the value of shared services by helping school districts pool resources, reduce costs, increase efficiencies, and expand opportunities for students. Through collaboration, expertise, and strategic partnerships, Orion helps schools strengthen programs, support educators, and improve outcomes for the students and communities they serve.
